Hi, my name is kier. I was born in Dalby on the Darling Downs, Queensland, Australia on September 17, 1956.
After a few turtuous years at Downlands College in Toowoomba, I finished my schooling at Dalby State High.
Then it was off to uni at what was then called the Darling Downs Institute of Advanced Education. This is now the University of Southern Queensland. I finished up there in 1980 with a Bachelor of Arts (Journalism & Media).
In between Uni and finally getting a job at ABC-TV, I played in a few “garage bands” - “The Sad Cases”; “The Lone Sharks”; “Feral Sound” - it was great. We didn’t take it seriously, and nobody took us seriously either. “The Sad Cases” were funny. We were a pretty hardcore punk band and we’d dress up in black suits and play gigs at small country halls ’round south east Queensland.

But then I got serious and started working for money. Most of my work experience has been in film, tv and radio. And it’s all been great - I can’t think of any bad experiences with any of it - except, perhaps, a short stint, six months or so, when I did sound recording for a lot of TV ads - that I hated.
Work has taken me around quite a bit. I’ve travelled around most of Australia, as well as Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Fiji and New Zealand. Actually it was the time I spent in Indochina that has had the most influence in my life - so far - hmm, no, maybe the kids have topped that one - I’ve got three of the bastards: two gorgeous girls and an equally gorgeous boy - absolute horrors.

Anyway, I spent a couple of years over in S-E Asia, and by the time I got back, I found I just simply couldn’t cope with what I saw as a self-centred attitude that seemed to pervade the mainstream of Australian urban society. So I got involved in community broadcasting - and loved it - unfortunately, it doesn’t pay the bills, so I’ve been running from my creditors ever since.
I’ve done quite a bit of work in radio. Started off producing programs - my nickname was “cut-edit”, ’cause I was pretty good with a razor blade. This was back in the dark ages (the 1980’s) when we didn’t have computers to do our editing for us. You actually had to cut the tape with a razor blade and put it back together with sticky tape. Eventually, I plucked up the courage to go on-air and play DJ - it was fun, I loved it and even ended up doing a few DJ gigs at some of the seedier clubs and pubs ’round Brisbane.
Towards the end of the last millennium, I went into hiding. No, I wasn’t worried about the end of the world, I was just sick of mainstream society - I needed time out and I took it. I lived on the Sunshine Coast for a few years and then ended up at Esk in the Brisbane Valley. I then decided to go back to Uni and completed a degree in cultural studies.
I’m now the newspaper guy out in Charleville in south west Queensland. By newspaper guy, I mean I’m the journalist, photographer and editor for the Western Times. I really like Charleville and figure this could be my home for quite a while.
Anyway, apart from that, I’m wasting my time with this web site and trying to cope with two totally insane dogs.
